The Grace, Hope, and Fatherhood Leader’s Guide is a 56-page manual containing six multimedia lessons to help churches, groups, and individuals prevent and combat human trafficking.
LESSON 1—”The Importance of Grace”
This lesson introduces learners to the issue of human trafficking. And it demonstrates how interpersonal grace, particularly grace shown within the family, can prevent trafficking and restore survivors. The lesson concludes with a practical suggestion for churches to minister to youth contemplating running away from home.
LESSON 2—“Your Grace Is Enough for Me”
With this lesson, learners discover the psychological factors that make persons vulnerable to human trafficking. And they’ll see how predators capitalize on these vulnerabilities to accomplish their goals. Participants will discover the powerful message of grace and how that families and churches can protect loved ones by creating an environment of grace.
LESSON 3—”Our Hope Against Human Trafficking”
This lesson is full of great information not just about human trafficking but also cyber safety. Instructors will find the quotations, links and resources to be a real help in expanding participants’ understanding on these topics. The lesson concludes with a resource section to help the class prepare a “Digital Dangers” seminar for the church or community.
LESSON 4—”Creating a Redemptive Culture That Inspires Hope”
Lesson 4 explores the idea of church culture. Every church creates a culture, not just with respect to its members but also with those the church is seeking to reach. Seven principles are offered for creating a redemptive culture that inspires hope, particularly for those who are struggling to find hope. While any person can fall victim to trafficking, certain young people are more vulnerable, including foster care youth, homeless youth, runaways, and pregnant teens. This lesson concludes with the “Foster Care Ministry Start-up Kit ” which offers ten practical suggestions for starting a foster care support ministry at your church.
LESSON 5—”Fathers and Reducing Vulnerability”
Lesson 5 examines the important link between fatherlessness and human trafficking. Studies of human trafficking show that some of the most vulnerable children are those in foster care, homeless youth, runaways, and pregnant teens. Each one of these at-risk populations is directly correlated to fatherlessness. By strengthening fathers, we can reduce the risk of young people being trafficked.
LESSON 6—“The Prodigal Father”
In this lesson, participants explore the parable of the Prodigal Son and its implications for conflicted family relationships. Hurt and loss changes relationships, but these experiences do not put relationships beyond redemption. By giving and receiving forgiveness, we can redeem our relationships and experience renewal. This lesson concludes with extra material for conducting a “Healing for the Wounded Heart: Understanding Forgiveness” session for those who have experienced hurts and betrayal.
